Disability Management
Boranup Forest Retreat has recently embarked on offering respite retreats. The facilitator, Anatole, has over 25 years experience working with disability. Educational qualifications with a double major in Human Movement and Psychology, experience in working in chronic pain programs, 10 + years in vocational rehabilitation and injury management have allowed him to obtain extensive experience in the disability sector. Having been a registered psychologist between 1997 and 2021 has also contributed to his vast experience with dealing with all mental health issues. Boranup Forest Retreat is not at present set up for wheelchair access, however, depending on interest it may be a development that we can cater to. In terms of range of disability that we can accommodate at present, small staff numbers would suggest individuals with high support needs may require independent support to accompany their retreat stays. In terms of specific monitoring supports for issues such as medication, we can tailor and provide individuals with any assistance to ensure that adherence to normal routines is maintained. Yoga style stretching exercises are a key element of our lifestyle at the retreat. We can provide more focused one to one or small group programs by qualified staff should participants be interested in this option. Mental health optimisation is our priority and a major aspect of what we seek to achieve.Lisa, Co Facilitator at Boranup Forest Retreat offers HeartMath biofeedback sessions to help with Stress, Anxiety and Self Regulation, Sound Journeys, Mindfulness in Movement exercises, influenced by Yoga and QiGong, and equine based therapies with her horse Chizzy.
Health and Wellness
The general theme of Boranup Forest Retreat focuses on health and wellness. This concept does not create an expectation that anyone coming to the retreat is fit and healthy. The expectation is that participants are interested in improving their state of health and wellness or willing to participate in activities that promote healthier ways of living. Whether that be diet, exercise or mental functioning, all of these areas are important features of our focus that we seek to optimise at Boranup Forest Retreat. Key aspects of health and wellness lifestyles promote ideal weight management. Integral to weight management is diet, exercise and activity levels. The facilitator has significant interest and extensive experience in particular areas associated with gluten free diets and intermittent fasting that can be helpful for improving attention on health. In addition, interest in ketogenic diets and ketosis are helping us revise our understanding and attitude to fats and carbohydrates. Intermittent fasting or having extended breaks from food intake is an interesting evolving science in the health and wellness area. The goal is to enhance our bodies capacity to utilise fat as a fuel source in order to lose weight. Intermittent fasting, where you limit food intake for 14 hours has demonstrated to activate anti-aging processes of the body that provide many health benefits. If you dont eat after 8pm and you can wait until 10am for breakfast you have achieved 14 hours of fasting. There are many things you can consume in terms of beverages that have little or no interference with this process that can make intermittent fasting quite easy to implement. If you have never tried this before we can coach you on this process and help you recognise the benefits, should you choose to implement it.
