Boranup Forest Retreat
Over the next year or two, one of the desired goals of the retreat is to become recognised as a hub for health and wellness. The retreat seeks to run Health and Wellness retreats for vocation specific areas so that people from similar vocational backgrounds, that are interested in health can connect with each other.
Health self-education activities
Incorporating stress management, professional development, business planning and health self-education activities in our retreats is a proactive investment in your work life that can also provide tax deductable benefits. It was not until I visited doctors surgeries last week delivering brochures promoting the retreat that I had the opportunity to talk to medical reception staff. Hearing similar stories of how difficult the last six months has been in this specific workplace made me consider just how much increased stress there has been across the board in so many industries.
It is our philosophy that people from similar employment backgrounds can obtain great comradery and benefit from having the opportunity to socialise with each other in our retreat setting. Since the Covid 19 crisis has arisen, massive changes in all vocational fields have been implemented, significantly increasing stress loads on staff. Having the opportunity of sharing these experiences for how different workplaces have coped and adapted to these challenges is highly valuable. Being able to discuss the difficulties that have been encountered can be quite therapeutic, especially when deeply understood by others. What better way to achieve this than a retreat with others that come from your industry!
It is my plan to implement this with all types of vocational areas, running retreats specifically for large service industries: Initially I plan to market to 1) medical and health support staff,2) military, fireman, police and ambulance workers 3) teachers and education aides, 4) disability support staff and carers with other industry groups to be added to the list in the near future. The common denominator will be an interest in health or desire to learn more about health.
Having such an opportunity to unwind in our retreat setting provides enormous benefits for stress management and health and wellness. Whether hiking through the surrounding forest, mountain biking the trails in our woods, canoeing the Blackwood River 15 (minutes drive away), undertaking coastal or beach walks, we want to share our highly medicinal environment with you. To add to that scene, being able to get a massage at the retreat and enjoy nutritious food without having to travel very far is ideal.
The retreat will soon be offering retreats for specific vocational industries, beginning with health related areas but marketing the concept to all industries, for anyone interested in investing in their health, Boranup Forest Retreat is ideal. Once recognised, the benefits of Boranup Forest Retreat can be expanded to include the opportunity to provide services such as Mental Health Awareness Training/Mental Health First Aid to commercial customers, opportunities to provide EAP counselling in a retreat setting, in addition to delivering professional development training for small businesses interested in health.
Mental Health Optimsation
We believe undertaking counselling in our retreat environment is a much more effective method to achieve change. Typically people attend counselling with a therapist once per week and time constraints often cap sessions at one hour. If fatigue is a barrier after working all day or if you are squeezing it in between work or family commitments then often the quality of this type of intervention does not lead to significant progress. Returning to your work or family life straight after counselling can interupt the extent to which counselling insights gain deeper consolidation to memory and therfore are often short lasting. Some report counselling to be frustrating for more complex cases, as you can only get so far when doing hourly appointments
At Boranup Forest Retreat our method of more intensive therapy where you isolate yourself from distractions, immerse yourself without interuptions and enjoy the beauty of walking and talking or sitting in our pristine environments is the best way to undertake therapy.
Come to our retreat and spend the time needed to more thoroughly address issues that have often been present for years. The option for bringing a family member or caring friend to help you both describe your issues and to be part of the therapy can be beneficial. This helps for supporting you into the future to help reinforce the benefits learnt at the retreat. Taking a holistic approach including exercise, yoga, massage, sound therapy etc to relax the mind and body combined with counselling, makes for an optimal therapeutic experience that we believe will provide maximal benefit.
Boranup Forest Retreat offers several models of couple s services based on three different scenarios. Behind our approach is decades of evidence gained through the Gottman Institute in the U.S. Philosophy. That is – intensive work done together, undertaken over a few days, isolating yourselves in an environment where you focus on this goal without interuptions or distractions
Counselling therapy for supporting couples in conflict.
Retreats for couples that have either grown apart or who have never really grown that close together. Most relationships start out strong, the so called honeymoon period, however, quality relationships that achieve the soul mate status are rare to find nowadays.
Relationship Optimisation. For couples that are on the path of happyness and soul mate goal. Meet other couples who run efficiently in their relationships who are highly interested in health and wellness, good communicators and that have a desire to share that success and support others in achieving that also. Undertaking activities together like walking/ hiking, mountain biking but also yoga for partners, having massages side by side at the same time and other retreat activities. Partner yoga is amazing and developing a connection through yoga is a very healthy activity we promote at Boranup Forest Retreat.
